Happy Father's Day

To my wonderful husband.

It hasn't been easy raising these children, now adults. We've both done the best we could. Often we have had very little money. Often we've had very little time with the kids, because we were working so hard to give them everything we didn't have. Sometimes we've felt like failures, but we're not. Just look at The Boy. And just look at the intelligence and talent The Girl has, though she squanders it. She will come around.

Remember when you were a stay-at-home-dad? Remember playing video games with the kids till all hours (though you knew I would never approve)? Remember taking them with you to band practice? Remember those tears you shed when you put The Boy on the bus for his first day of school?

They remember, and that's what counts. Their Dad will always be a big kid, someone who makes them laugh, someone who set them straight when they needed it, someone who loves them no matter what. They know.

And I know. And I love you for being their dad and my companion all these years.

Happy Father's Day, my dear. It's your 24th one!

Love, D

What a wonderful post, D. How great after all these years you guys are still able to feel so lovingly about all those trials and tribulations.
