Chesty XII Retires

My eldest bulldog, Lily (AKC: B and D's Pictures of Lily) was born of Silver Creek's Bubba Bocephus and B and D's Jezebella Butercup. One of Bocephus' other pups (a brother from another mother) went on to become the mascot of the Marine Corps. Since my hubby, his father, and his brothers were all Marines, it's kind of cool to know that Lily's half-brother held such a high honor. He is now retiring, at age 7. Here is the news story from CBS. Isn't he a great looking dog??

Enjoy!

Peace - D

That would be so awesome if you guys and Lily could go to Chesty's retirement ceremony. Get the family together!

That's really awesome, hon. Thanks!

I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of short nosed dogs (being a needle-nose dog fan), but he does look like a very handsome example of a bulldog!

Over here, their noses are often so short that they can't breathe, and their faces are so wrinkled that they have huge skin and eye problems. I hate to see that.

Chesty looks like a nicely put together dog and quite a happy little soul! And it's so cool to have him in your family!

There's an award for you over at my place, Doris. I believe someone else has already given it to you, but I don't believe one can have too many awards. We need the appreciation.

That's an awesome news clip. How cool to be related--through your dog, that is-- to Chesty. My husband is a former Marine. He'll get a kick out of the clip.

CMGD - Had I known about it in time, I could have wrangled an invitation. My former English professor (with whom I work in the Poetry project at my alma mater) is married to a Marine who is in the band. He knows Chesty and sees him at all the events. Unfortunately, I found out about this the night before.

Jay - I was never a fan of blunt-nosed dogs either. I grew up with mutts and German Shepherds. My husband and I had a G.S., a few mutts and a Samoyed (who was his baby). Our daughter put in for a bulldog for her 17th birthday. Lily ended up becoming our dog, and Bodhi followed. They make wonderful (although snoring) companions.

San - Thank you, my friend. And isn't it the truth? There's not enough love in the world, and I'll cherish your award.

NurseMyra - Thanks again for visiting and for taking time to watch our buddy Chesty.

Ruth - Glad you dropped in! I hope your husband loves the clip and tell him we said OOO-RAH!

Peace - D

So funny about his uniform being a wee bit too tight....

He is a very very cute dog, what a heartwarming post.....

Gotta love the marines...two footed or four footed!
