Happy Bodhi Day
I'll bet you didn't know that Bodhi had his own day, did you? Truthfully, I learned about this from one of my recent commenters who informed me that there is a Buddhist holiday in December (today) called Bodhi Day. It is to celebrate the day on which Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) achieved enlightenment and presented the Four Noble Truths to the world. Somehow during my year-and-a-half of dabbling in Tibetan Buddhism, I didn't learn a thing about "Bodhi Day."
Anyway, here it is December 8th, Bodhi Day, and I figured you'd be expecting a picture. Here is our little Sanatana Bodhisattva (Bodhi) who was actually born July 2, 2007. I'm not sure if he's reached enlightenment yet, but I suspect he'd be much more mellow if he had. Besides, a bodhisattva is a being who postpones his own enlightenment in order to help others reach theirs, in other words a very compassionate being.
Doesn't he look monk-like in this picture? There is nothing he loves more than being wrapped in a blankie...or maybe a tricivara (three-part monastic robe).
Happy Bodhi Day!
(I am in the post-phase of my bout with head pain, but I am on the downhill slide. Thank you for your well wishes yesterday...)
Peace - D
