Twelve Days of Christmas

If you haven't started shopping for your 12 Days of Christmas presents yet, there's still time to catch up, but it'll cost you. This year, according to Forecast Earth it will cost a whopping $86, 609, up 10.9% from last year. Go there and take a look. I'm not kidding. And I don't know about you, but I don't quite understand the math behind some of the options. How can eight maids a-milking cost so much less than the livestock?

We haven't gone hog-wild this year - heh - but we've spent enough. I've spent more than I planned to, but it's all been in cash - no credit - when I've made those purchases. In previous years, I've had the January credit card bloat (like I didn't already have enough of that) and the resulting buyer's remorse. This year, I'll simply start socking it away for the next holiday season and for our vacation (which we will hopefully take this year!).

If someone wants to buy me twelve gifts for Christmas, it wouldn't be the litany of nonsense you hear about in the song. It would be something more like this:

12 Massage certificates
11 Days of lawn care
10 Carpet cleanings
9 Home repairs
8 Romantic DVDs
7 Boxes of chocolate
6 Bulldog puppies
5 Diamond rings
4 Trips to islands
3 Trips to Europe
2 Blu-Ray players
And a Sony 46" LCD HDTV

Now get shoppin'!

And for a little more humor? Take a look at this photo I snapped last night as hubby and I were out window shopping. The writer in me couldn't walk past that sign without rankling and the wife in me couldn't resist putting my husband in front of it. Enjoy! (and ... any takers?)

Peace - D

I love that list, may I copy it? But make it 6 Westie puppies please.

Awesome list, darlin'! Might have to steal that one!

Great picture. Heh. :)

You're selling your husband?! Harsh . . .

Moannie - Copy away! I had fun coming up with that. Hey, about those Westies - do you find their bark to be very loud or yappy? I love the look of them, but I've never been around them. I've heard that their bark is designed to be loud so that they can be heard underground when they corner vermin.

CMGD - Glad you liked it! The picture was snapped with my cell phone in a dark parking lot. I'm surprised it came out at all.

Tysdaddy/Brian - I'd never sell him; he's priceless! But I couldn't resist commenting on the pic, nonetheless.

Peace - D

This is a great post, and it reminds me to get out there and finish my own Christmas shopping. Love the list.

That' a fun photo.

The price of the 12 days is a killer. I saw that when I was hoping and praying for a snow day last week. Crazy.

I like your list.

I liked the post and wondered if they ran out of room trying to write REASONABLE, and had to drop the 'a' in order to make it fit on the sign????

It would be fun to have your readers to the 12 gift list....

I remember back in 1960 when I started my 'savings' for Christmas in the teapot; kept that tradition until the family got bigger, and then started a savings account (not a Christmas fund) that earned interest and have never used a credit card for Christmas gifts in 48 years.

If you 'buy all year' (I keep a gift close), you can also get things on sale; put them in plastic storage bags (or trash bags) to keep them dust-free, and then you never have to battle traffic during the holidays (or crowds in the stores).

Have a splendid holiday - love the template you use for your blog; it's always gives such a homey and festive feel.

Hahahahaha, you should put hubby on ebay, I'm sure you'll raise more than enough cash to supplement your twelve days of Christmas wish-list! Thanks for the smile.
